History

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. manages and owns two restaurants catering to an Asian specialization; P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Pei Wei Asian Diner.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro was developed as an elegant casual dining concept, in contrast, Pei Wei’s Asian Diner was designed to provide a casual, quick concept. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro was established on July 20, 1993.

The First P.F. Chang China Bistro restaurant was established in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1993. The headquarters of the company is still in Scottsdale. However, it is currently operated and owned by Centerbridge Partners, LP.

P.F. Chang is the name that was given to it. P.F. Chang was the result of the combination of its founders’ names: Paul Fleming and Philip Chiang.

Chiang was the name that they chose. Chiang was changed to Chang to reflect the restaurant’s name. The bistro’s roots are in a similarly popular Chinese restaurant

in the mid-sixties, The Mandarin. The Mandarin was owned by Philip Chiang’s mom, Cecilia Chiang. The 1970s were when Philip Chiang got involved in the industry by working with his mother to run the eatery at their Beverly Hills location.

Restaurant owner Paul Fleming came into the scene in the late 1990s and in 1993 Fleming along with Chiang came up with P.F. Chang’s.

The co-founders decided to launch another location at Newport Beach, California in the year 1994. Two additional locations were also opened in California in the year following.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. was established as a Delaware corporation in January of 1996.

Fleming and Chiang formed the company by purchasing the initial four restaurants. The company began its first publicly traded offering on December 28, 1998.

On January 2, 2012, the company operated 204 restaurants across 39 states across the United States. On 2 July 2012, the company was purchased from Centerbridge Partners, LP, and was no longer traded on the stock exchanges.

The chain is expanding globally and nationally. There are locations across the U.S., including for instance: Georgia, Florida, California, New York, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Virginia.

There are currently 16 P.F. Chang locations outside of the United States. Some examples of locations outside the United States include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

While the company’s restaurant network grows its operations, it aims to make sure that customers are given the right service.

Each restaurant is typically equipped with an operating partner with up to four managers, a kitchen partner, at minimum one sous chef, and approximately 125 employees who work on a daily basis.

Review

P.F. Chang’s offers a variety of delightful Southeast Asian cuisine. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner along with smaller plates of food, sushi, and dim sum.

The main dishes include Sichuan Chili Garlic Chicken as well as Chang’s spicy chicken.

Crispy honey chicken, Cantonese style lemon chicken Mongolian beef, sweet and spicy pork, and pepper steak. The prices for the pork, chicken, and beef main dishes vary from $13 to $20.

There are other options for those who love seafood, such as the Asian grilling of salmon Kung Pao seafood, scallops, or shrimps Hunan-style Chang’s lobster rice, hot fish along with Hong Kong Sea Bass in Hong Kong style. The prices for seafood choices can range from $16-$27.

The lunch menu is available on Mondays and Fridays from 3:30 p.m. The restaurant has an option known as “lighter lunch pairings”, priced between $9 to $12. The lunch pairings are comprised of small plates of sushi, paired with a side dish.

Examples of such pairings include Chang’s lettuce wraps pairing as well as the chicken satay and lettuce pairing as well as that of the California rolls pairing. Another option for lunch is “lunch wok classics”.

The classics are lunch-sized wok favorites served with fried or steamed rice or Quinoa. The lunch wok dishes cost between $9 and $12.

The bistro also serves various rice and noodles like noodles and rice, including Singapore streets noodles, garlic noodles pad thai, and lo mein.

Healthy options include gluten-free options for lunch. There are also options for vegetarians.

The vegetarian menu includes Ma Po tofu, stir-fried eggplant, Buddha’s feast along with coconut curry vegetables. The restaurant also has specials for customers.

“Mongo Mondays” provides a Mongolian beef dish and two craft beers for $22 throughout the day. Also, there is “Tacos on Tuesday”, offering street tacos and the option of sangria or a margarita.

Its hours of operations differ depending on the location but generally run all the way from 11:00 a.m. until eleven p.m. for Sundays to Thursdays, and from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Fridays.

Happy hour is from 3:00 p.m. until 7:07 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. The restaurant also offers catering services. The Bistro accepts reservations and usually has a short or no wait.

The service is excellent and is generally fast. The hygiene could be improved with improvements. Wraps of lettuce are definitely my favorite.

They also have Korean barbecue ribs as well as the kung pao chicken broccoli and beef, as well as Chiang’s spicy chicken is highly recommended.

The delicious cuisine and the Asian-inspired ambiance offer the ideal opportunity for guests to experience a taste of Southeast Asian culture.
